SA Hake Keeps its Ecolabel

South Africa’s hake trawl fishery has been certified to the Marine Stewardship Council’s Standard for environmental sustainability in wild-capture fisheries for a fifth consecutive time. The fishery’s re-certification extends an unbroken record that began in 2004, when it became the first hake fishery in the world to achieve this globally recognised certification. 

More than two decades later, that unbroken record stands as a testament to the industry’s commitment to responsible fishing practices and cements South Africa’s position as a genuine pioneer in sustainable fisheries management.
