Public Fish but Private Government Decisions – or Not?

Four environmental non-profit organisations have asked the Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE), David Maynier, to disclose who allowed the continuation of sardine fishing after the mass die-off, and to suspend directed fishing until a new sardine population survey is completed. Their frustration is palpable but as a Department marine scientist points out this problem is scientifically more complicated than just pointing fingers.
