South Africa's Marine Protected Areas. The target is to increase the country's protected estate by 0.5% per annum and achieve about 28% of land and sea under protection by 2036.

Since 2019 just over 5,4% of South Africa’s EEZ are legislated as Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). These are huge areas in different parts of the country and managing and maintaining these effectively involves a tracking tool and a plan. At the same time it means overcoming some very real challenges.
