Abalone Farms Stress About Potential CITES Appendix II Listing

The South African abalone (Haliotis midae) industry has heard recently that there is a proposal from the South African Government to include its “dried specimens only” product in Appendix II of CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora). This has especially alarmed the farmed abalone industry which exports mainly dried abalone to Asia.
