CITES CoP20 Delivers but it is Not All Good News

The Twentieth Meeting of the Conference of Parties (COP) to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) – “CITES CoP20” – the global forum where governments set the rules about international wildlife trade, concluded this month. Outcomes included the advance protection for species such as sharks, rays, and Asian big cats. Some of the disappointments included notably, the EU’s proposal to list all eel species on Appendix II which was rejected by a wide margin.
