Another African Country Ratifies Work in Fishing Convention

Ghana has become the 22nd member State of the International Labour Organization (ILO) to ratify the Work in Fishing Convention (C188).

Ghana’s ratification of the Work in Fishing Convention (C188) and its accompanying Work in Fishing Recommendation (No. 199) means that for that country the Convention will take effect on 28 August 2025. In the meantime, fishing vessels that do not meet the requisite prescriptions of ILO Convention 188 and without the mandatory maritime labour certificate, will not be permitted to go to sea.
