Matter of Fact or Mischief-Making?

Namibia’s media are circulating a story that environmental authorisation has once again been granted to Namibian Marine Phosphate (Pty) Ltd to begin mining phosphate offshore within Mining Licence 170 (ML 170).  This information, despite evidence of an Environmental Clearance Certificate dated 5 August 2026, is unverified as to date there is no formal confirmation from any of the government departments concerned, nor NMP itself or the Chamber of Mines of Namibia. What this news has done is stir up controversy again about this emotive topic which has been well covered on this website.
