Local Fishers Contribute to Landmark Shark Study

Small-scale fishers in the Kogelberg area of the Western Cape should take a bow. They have helped to collate data for two scientific papers about the unique catsharks in South African waters. Their publication coincides with World Shark Awareness Day celebrated today!

The stretch of coastline where the study was done, includes the coastal towns of Betty’s Bay, Pringle Bay, Kleinmond and Hermanus. The area is a hotspot of marine biodiversity and is home to more than 60 species of sharks and rays.
