Wetland Ecological Recovery Project Returns Lost Species

Despite their significance to human life, wetlands are the most threatened of all South Africa’s ecosystems. Some good work is being done at the Nuwejaars wetlands close to Cape Agulhas which are being restored to biological health. This includes protecting highly endangered vegetation types and bringing back hippos after 200 years of local extinction.
