Social media is a powerful platform for communication and this was put to the test recently when a letter from the South African Shore Angling Association (SASAA) was posted online opposing the use of drones to fish. In fact SASAA says if it is not possible to ban the sport in most places, then it wants regulations put in place.
The letter was in response to a recently published paper āThe emergence of marine recreational drone fishing: Regional trends and emerging concernsā, which highlights the pros and cons of using drones to fish from a science and research perspective. In particular, the effects on many already heavily pressured species.
