The cyberattack that created havoc at Transnet’s container terminals in the ports of Cape Town, Durban, Ngqura and Port Elizabeth last week, has brought into sharp focus the cybercrime threat to security systems at all levels. The problem is that cyberattacks are likely to increase in frequency and severity, say some specialists in the field of information technology. They partly attribute this to some companies being willing to pay ransom to get their data back.
