When South Africa lost its International Maritime Organization (IMO) Category C Council seat two years ago 2021, it was a shock to the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) and the Department of Transport. Since then there has been a lot of work behind the scenes to regain the seat, but sadly it was not to be.
