Today, 3 March, is supposed to be World Wildlife Day, as proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly. Its a commemoration of the day the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) was signed in 1973. But the recent shocking news that during 2023, 499 rhinos were poached across South Africa, up 51 compared to the number poached in 2022, makes a mockery of this.
