The need to manage water more responsibly was a key driver for the Oceana Group to invest in two west coast-based state-of-the-art desalination plants that were christened recently.

The company has built the plants at its St Helena Bay and Laaiplek cannery and fishmeal processing factories respectively and in doing so says the R30 million investment will secure 2000 jobs and contribute to food security equivalent to 3.5 million meals per year in South Africa. It also reduces the Group’s reliance on municipal water reserves.
