More than 5000 applications for fishing rights were received by the Namibian Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources by the close of the 2018 application process. There was no extension of the deadline which ran from 24 May to 31 August.
According to a ministerial statement, the total of 5193 applications had been received from 14 regional councils. The largest number 2766 was lodged with the MFMR Office in Windhoek, followed by 1247 at the Khomas Regional Council and 661 at the Erongo Regional Council.
