The Case for Global Governance of the Oceans

A system of global governance that recognises the ocean as a global commons is required. This is according to new research which says building a sustainable oceans economy is a priority. It also says Africa must be involved in global discussions.

While some might scoff that this is idealistic, the question of how to protect the health of oceans now and in the future is a serious matter. This is addressed in the 9th edition of Africa Insights The Pathways to Sustainable Seas: Governing the Oceans as a Commons.

This report published in January 2021, is a joint project of Bowmans in conjunction with their research partners at Stellenbosch University Centre for Complex Systems in Transition.
