Stealing the March. Majors Happy with ‘Fair’ Rights Allocations

Bird scaring lines (or tori lines as they are referred to), have been used by fishing vessels to monitor seabird bycatch. But now electronic monitoring devices are also being used.

The conclusion of the Fishing Rights Allocation Process (FRAP 21/22) has been a huge relief to fishing majors. A day later, on 1 March, Sea Harvest and Oceana Group Limited, lost their Company Secretaries. Despite this they are buoyed about the ‘fair’ allocations even though a reduction in total allowable catch (TAC), and in the case of Sea Harvest and Irvin and Johnson, some of their quota.
