The Aukotowa small-scale fisheries cooperative of Port Nolloth is working hard to make money but there are several challenges that its members are forced to face. These include that they don’t have enough boat permits which restricts some members from fishing, that the basket of species is under utilised although they are catching snoek and lobster, and that marketers are delaying payments. Climate change is also impacting fishing activity. But there are also some new threats on the horizon.
