Stunning Display of Marine and Bird Life Immortalised

The most stunning mosaic works of art you will have ever seen were spotted on display at the George Farmers Market recently.

The mosaic artist is Morgan Delcourt of Sedgefield who explains that this particular style of fine art was used by the Venicians and Byzantine in the 15th Century.

Opus Palladium (or “crazy paving” as it is popularly known) is a mosaic technique that utilises irregular small cuts of glass arranged in random, free form pattern, highly expressive sculptural details, with no spaces between tiles and no grouting.

All the mosaic pieces in each work come from Venice (Bizassa) and Indonesia (20%).  The detail is precise and as close to the creation as it could possibly be with the finished work looking like a painting from a distance of five metres.

It takes months and in some cases years  to create the artwork and as Morgan says “the key to the success of each one is patience!”

With some mosaic pieces costing as much as R6500 a square metre, you can sure you are purchasing a superb quality piece that is worthy of any art gallery.

He has several beautifully framed pieces available in various sizes and prices and will certainly discuss commissions, so please email Morgan and his wife Anése directly at delcourt@telkomsa.net or call 072 478 5515 for more information.
