Massive Drug Bust Highlights Vulnerability of Ports

The massive cocaine bust at the port of Saldanha this week highlights just how vulnerable the port system is generally and especially the vulnerability of smaller ports.

One of the messages from the recent Thirty-fourth Session of the Committee on Fisheries (COFI) held last month, was that there needs to be stronger implementation of port state measures. This will deter distant water fleets engaged in IUU fishing and other activities.
