Wetlands are probably the most abused of our natural systems and yet they are critically important for water security. As the world celebrates World Wetlands Day, South Africa is declaring its 28th wetland of international importance – the Berg Estuary in the Western Cape. A lot of other good work is also being done, an example being the Papenkuils wetland in the Breede River catchment.
