Better Port State Control inspections will take place in future thanks to training provided recently to SAMSA’s inspectors, amongst others. They now know how to spot and rule out poor labour practices, especially forced labour, on fishing vessels. Watch the video…

The South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) has come under scrutiny for its performance to date with the implementation of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Work-In-Fishing Convention, 2007 (C188).

Fishing Vessel Safety. Treaty Signed At Last

South Africa ratified this Convention in 2013 and it was put into effect eight years later – in the process becoming the first country globally to implement it.
